St Peter's Quiet Garden

Pause for reflection . . .

Quotes of Inspiration

I weave a silence on to my lips
I weave a silence into my mind
I weave a silence within my heart
I close my ears to distractions
I close my eyes to attractions
I close my heart to temptations.

Calm me O Lord as you stilled the storm
Still me O Lord, keep me from harm
Let all tumult within me cease
Enfold me Lord in your peace.

From "The Edge of Glory"
David Adam
God Almighty first planted a garden: and indeed it is the purest of human pleasures. Francis Bacon
Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe. Voltaire
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm on your face,
And the rain fall softly on your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Old Gaeilic Blessing
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things...
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah!
bright wings!

From "God's Grandeur" Gerald Manley Hopkins

Dedication of the Quiet Garden

Picture
Dedication - On Pentecost Sunday, May 11th 2008, the Rt Rev Stephen Venner, the Bishop in Canterbury, came to dedicate our renovated garden for the use of church members and the wider community. It was a very special day.

Anyone is welcome to come to our garden. It is always open.

Our Quiet garden is affiliated to the world-wide
Quiet Garden Movement which promotes reflection and contemplation in the context of God's love.

Much of the garden is young. We look forward to seeing it grow and develop with us and with you.

Lord God Almighty, Origin of the Universe and source of all beauty. We give you thanks for the loveliness of plants, and for the gifts of joy and hope and comfort which they offer to us.  In loving your creation, help us Father, to love you better, and to give you the glory in all that you do. We make this prayer in the power of the Spirit, though Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
